Headliner: Franz Ferdinand
Support: The Rakes & Editors
The gig was pretty damn awesome. We got into the venue just after 6:30 & after sitting on the floor for a while, The Rakes took the stage. They were better than I was expecting. I’d seen a few videos of theirs on TV & thought they were kinda boring. They were anything but live. The lead singer kept me (& the others) amused all through the set with his dancing hahaha. I wanna dance like him! He was like jelly. Hilarious. He had so much character & energy. The songs were good too. The crowd really got into it, which is odd for the first band. Maybe indie-lovers are more open-minded than the metal crowd.
After them came Editors. I was looking forward to them since I adore ‘Blood’ & quite liked the sound of the other songs I’d heard. The set started off really well. & wow, it was worth the £25 just to hear them play ‘Blood’. It was effing awesome live! Their set was a bit of a mixture & in the end it did drag on a bit, but I still enjoyed them. There was an awesome guy in front of me who was a huge Editors fan, he was dancing & singing like a maniac haha. It was great. Oh & a guy passed out right on me :x I didn’t know what to do! Thankfully he was okay…
At 9:30, Franz took the stage. It was awesome; about 3 songs in when they played ‘Do You Want To?’ & the curtain dropped behind them to reveal a huge screen with a big red question mark on. The crowd went nuts bouncing around & singing along. The cameras then panned around the stage so we could see them on the big screen behind. They pllaayyeedd (no order):
This Boy
Do You Want To?
Matinee
Come Home
Walk Away
Take Me Out
Auf Achse
Michael
The Fallen
I’m Your Villain
Eleanor Put Your Boots On
Darts Of Pleasure
Jacqueline
Evil and a Heathen
This Fire
& others that I forget cuz I’m not that familiar with the new album… I have a feeling they played ‘What You Meant’… I’ll have to ask the others :P
It was so much fun, I especially enjoyed getting mah groove on to ‘Michael’ lmao. I probably looked like a right arse, but who cares, right?
I’m glad they played ‘This Fire’… I would’ve cried otherwise. They played it last! They played an ultra-long encore, which was cool, although I was worrying about my brother who thought he was going to throw up. It was hilarious when three people started playing the drums during one song in the encore, though.
All in all, a fantastic night! & definitely good for some people I went with, as it was their first gig :)
