Three covers for you this week, enjoy!
The Lemonheads – Mrs. Robinson | Original
I’ve been listening to quite a bit of Simon & Garfunkel in the last week or so, due to my boyfriend sending me ‘Scarborough Fair’ because he thought it would be something I’d like (strangely I already knew the tune because Hannah Fury reworked the song with ‘Scars’) & we had a few conversations about them while I was with him. When I got home I also watched a Simon & Garfunkel DVD with my mum (the same show in Central Park on the above link). Anyway, I was reminded of the cover by The Lemonheads which features on the soundtrack of one of my favourite films, Wayne’s World. I think it’s quite a good cover!
Pantera – Planet Caravan | Original
I’ve adored this cover of Black Sabbath’s ‘Planet Caravan’ for a long time now, & I get lost in the video for it every time I see it. It’s very mellow & different for Pantera, but I think it works really well. Such a trippy, chill-out track. Sorry about the video for the original, I guess Black Sabbath never made a video for it or recorded it being played live (if they ever did play it live). The random psychedelic images will have to do I’m afraid.
Nightwish – High Hopes | Original
I was lucky enough to see Nightwish do this cover of Pink Floyd’s ‘High Hopes’ in Birmingham back in 2005. I thought it was amazing, & seeing this video brings back the great memory of seeing them live. Marco Hietala has such an amazing voice & I think it’s a really interesting version of the track. Of course, many would disagree, since Pink Floyd were such a great band, but I’m sure others happen to like it as well.
