1. About Soul Drift

Music is my biggest passion, despite having no talent for it. I am constantly listening to music, looking for it & talking about it. I have always liked the concept of music blogs, but rarely find any that suit my taste, so I thought I’d start my own. I do not claim to be an expert, I just hope to talk about my favourite bands/artists & share my opinions in a down to earth way. Hopefully I will also help people discover new music & allow them to share their opinions as well.

The music I focus on in the blog is mainly rock, metal & their various subgenres. However, I am open to anything, so you never know what you will find here! Although the idea of an MP3 blog is pretty cool, unfortunately this blog will not be like that for legal reasons. I have, however, created a page (found on the sidebar) of free & legal downloads/music for you to pick & choose from. There is some awesome music there, so take a look! It is updated regularly. The blog also aims to give an equal balance of what males & females are getting up to in the music industry! Feel free to comment & get involved!

I first started this website on 21st July 2007 & I closed the website in the Winter of 2007. I reopened Soul Drift around December 2008. All entries prior to 21st July 2007 (& between December 2007-2008) were written down or posted on other websites listed below.

2. About the Author

I’m Saara Fae (obviously not my real name!). I am a 22 year old History graduate from South Wales, UK. I managed a metal band during my gap year (2005-2006) & also created a fairly successful project in 2006 called Frock You, which was a website listing & promoting females in bands in South Wales & beyond. At University I have been involved with the Women’s Network & became the Media Officer for 2008-09. I contributed to, edited & put together the Women’s Network Zine, Artemis. Many of the articles I contributed have been republished on this website. More information about my music taste:

3. Contact Information

You can contact me via the links on the sidebar. E-mail is probably the best option, but I also like speaking to like-minded people on Last.FM too! Feel free to add me.

4. Contributors

Although I am the main author of this website, I have had a few contributions:

Mike – Some gig photography, post editing & constant support ♥
Rob – Interpol album review
Will MacDonald – An article on Montreal’s indie music scene

Would you like to contribute? Please do not hesitate to contact me!

6. Website History

I have been dabbling with websites since 1999. My first websites were pretty terrible & on freehosts such as Expage & Angelfire. In 2002 I got a personal website hosted. I had various websites for the next few years until I bought my own domain, Sarallica.net, in 2004. As with most of my projects, the website did not last very long! For a while I took a break from personal websites & I became manager of a band in my local area in 2005. I designed & maintained their website, Ekodium.com, for a period of time as well as also developing my own project in 2006 called Frock You, which focused on women in alternative music (particularly in South Wales). While this was a popular project, it did not last long either. I’ve dabbled in other personal sites since then but have never really taken to them. This project has been on & off since 2007, but I am determined to keep at it this time around!

The background is by EnchantedGal Stock at DeviantArt. All photographs of bands (besides the ones in the gig reviews, which were either taken by me or my boyfriend) are by their respective owners. They are used for promotional purposes only. If a photograph belongs to you & you wish for me to take it down, please do not hesitate to contact me. Everything else is mine unless otherwise stated.

Hey Sarah we wanted to let you know that we visit your blog from time to time, and really dig it. Since you seem to enjoy shoegaze we wanted to let you know about our album. we just finished our first album and we would like to send you a couple of tracks. Our music is a bit shoegazy but dancier…like My Bloody Valentine with break beats. We didn’t want to clog your inbox with mp3s but if you want, we’ll send you a couple tracks from the new cd. Just let us know.

With Love,
Panda Riot

Hey,

I wanted to write and tell you about a new forum for artists, musicians, fashion designers, and filmmakers: PutItOn.com.The site allows artists from all over the world to connect, display their portfolios, and sell their work (with no commission taken). The site gives you a gigabyte of space to showcase your portfolio, allows you to stream audio and video works, lets you create live personal broadcasts for your followers, and translates any writing into ten different languages. If you could take the time to visit the site, let your readers know about it, and even sign up yourself and link to it on your site it would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

All the best,
Sarah at PutItOn.com
