A blog article I have written – highlighting under-the-radar female musicians as role models as opposed to a lot of mainstream ‘artists’ today – has just been posted on the fantastic Jemsite. Jemsite is an ‘informational site encouraging & helping others learn about everything from guitar playing to Ibanez guitars to specific JEM & Universal models’.
Head over to Jemsite to read my guest post & don’t forget to check out the rest of the website too!

Manchester-based band Obsessive Compulsive have been at the top of my Last.FM recommendations for the last few weeks because I am a fan of Die So Fluid, My Ruin, Eyelash & Queen Adreena. Today I surfed on to their MySpace page for a listen & was blown away – another fantastic female-fronted hard rock band from Britain! They don’t really sound like the bands they are supposedly similar to (I think Last.FM generates the recommendations based on mutual listeners of bands) but there are some things they have in common: awesome dark/heavy music with a powerful vocalist.
I love the band’s ‘DIY’ ethic & their attitude to music in general. They have released two EPs already & are currently writing their debut album – I’m very interested to hear it!
Recommended Listening: ‘In Memory Of…’, ‘God Shaped Hole’, ‘Dying Dying Dead’

Apologies for the lack of posts recently, but it is essay season again. Unfortunately I have to write 19,000 words (collectively) this semester, so there may be long periods without updates!
Anyway, the awesome Die So Fluid have announced that they are about to record album number three. I can’t wait to hear it! You can read all about on a blog written by Grog.

I should have bought this album when it came out in 2006 – I was completely obsessed with it back then! I still love the album & it’s another different Patton album for me to own. It’s supposedly ‘Patton goes pop’ (but it’s more trip/hip-hop). I think people would be surprised that I like it so much, but I think it’s clever & a fun listen.
Someone gave me a copy of this album a couple of years ago to see if I would like them but I never got around to buying it. I thought it was about time I did! Die So Fluid have quickly become one of my favourite bands in recent years & although their second album is my current favourite, I still like their debut a lot.
This atmospheric/folk metal album is another I had been meaning to buy for a long time but it had either been out of stock (physically) or very expensive (digitally). I’m glad I have finally got my hands on their debut, even if it was just for the awesome ‘She Painted Fire Across the Skyline (Parts 1, 2 & 3)’ & ‘Hallways of Enchanted Ebony’.
I discovered this gothic/doom metal band through Last.FM a while back & I’m glad I got the opportunity to purchase a release by them. This is their debut & only full-length release so far. I like the contrast of harsh & clean vocals, metal & strings on the album & there are some really beautiful piano instrumentals too.
Since they gave ‘Sticky Lies’ away as a free MP3 at the end of last year & listening to my limit of their tracks on Last.FM, I had wanted to get hold of the music by electronic-rock band Colt. With my last couple of downloads on eMusic, I purchased this EP. I think I will be buying their full-length very soon!
